red star The Macaroon Ceilidh Band was formed in 2007 and our line-up consists of Pete French (piano), Colin Blakey (whistles, flute, harmonica, Galician bagpipes) and Philippa Bull (fiddle).

Over the years we've played for over 250 events in a variety of places, The Macaroon Ceilidh Bandincluding Sedberghfest, Ingleton Folk Weekend, Lancaster and Kendal town halls in addition to numerous hotels, marquees and village halls in Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire.

The band has a traditional sound. Most of the carefully selected tunes we play have been passed down through the generations so they're really good dance tunes which have stood the test of time. While we aim to play with the essential traditional feel, we like to keep it lively, performing mostly on acoustic instruments and making sure the music is uncluttered, light and bouncy, with plenty of drive for the dancing.

wedding dance Ambleside The music we use comes from different sources: Scotland, Cumbria, Ireland, and further afield including Galicia, America, Cape Breton, the Middle East.

For gaps between dances, and for non-dancing occasions, we play 'listening' pieces which include our own compositions in addition to arrangements of our dance sets and an eclectic mix of tunes from around the world.

Macaroon Ceilidh BandThe band has an acoustically balanced sound, which means that we can perform at all volumes in all venues, either amplified or completely unplugged (which can work well for smaller rooms, including those with real pianos).

To guide you in the dancing we hire from a pool of excellent and experienced local callers including Fiona Rigg, Martyn Harvey, Chris Bland, Bill Lloyd, Les Ord, Sue Nicholls and Dan Mason.

Each of our callers has a unique repertoire of great dances to choose from, to suit the occasion and the agility and experience of the dancers. Ceilidhs are suitable for all ages, in fact are great for intergenerational mixing!
